I'm curious how much interest there would be in a MAP Conversion for 4th gens? I'm working on one for the 5th gen, which would pretty easily also drop into the 4th gen as well.
This would completely get rid of the AFM and convert to only using the MAP for airflow calculations. It would work with the stock ECU and be easy as hell to install. I'm thinking I'll be able to put together kits for between 100 and 150$.
I'm just wondering what kinda interest there is. If there was enough interest, I could probably make a group buy for a bunch cheaper since it'll be easier to make them in bulk.

Well, I only have alltracs, and that's what I'm developing it on, so yes, it will work on 3s-gtes. My GF has a 92 GT, so that's the NA version I'll be testing it on.

what kind of gains will we be looking at here?

Well, it will allow one-time tunes (I'll burn a set fuel map onto the chip, with cheap replacement chips with new tunes.) So, any fuel map alteration set you want I can do. I don't know exactly what that will do in an N/A car. 5-10% with a good tune is what I've heard. It'll take some development work to mess with. On a 3s-gte you'll get way higher gains, since the ECU stock dumps so much fuel in you lose power to running so rich, so bringing you significantly closer to a good A:F ratio with this would give you a good deal more power.

what kind of gains will we be looking at here? As the man says.. it depends on how you tune it. It does allow for more leeway in the A/F mixture, not to mention the flap that we all love so much on our AFM's. It frees up restriction at the minimum. Considering the price, it's worth it from that alone.

Yeah I'm mostly designing it as a cheap way to free up the insane restriction that the AFM places on the system, as well as problems with the flapper gate bouncing under heavy boost, it being completely limited under heavy boost, etc. The providing tuning as well is just a convenient side effect that I might as well toss in there since I'll be wanting it, and I'm sure others will too.

Well, it's a project for school due in a month, and I hope to have it done well before then. I have all the research and testing done, I just need to finish designing the final circuit and figure out how to get them more mass-produced. So, it'll be a few weeks, but it should be soon.

You ought to produce them and offer the product as a regular sale. I gaurantee you there'd be some response. NO-ONE handles any aftermarket for the celica these days.. which I'm sure you alraedy know. This would definitely help the community.

with an map sensor you will notice no gain....you only will get one fuel map...thats why honduhs get map blockoffs and then run sfm with the afm it tunes the fuel map according to the o2 sensor and various other things. just get a megasquirt system

... You're a moron, plain and simple, and don't know what you're talking about. And this reply has nothing to do with whether or not I want to make money off this thing, it's just true.
