I am not trying to be a dick, nor am I usually a critisizing person. But what you stated about your car is Very Very hard to beleive. & I know why you think you are revving over 7500rpms cause the EIS is the wrong tach adapter, I have installed about 10 MSD6AL's & everytime the tach is off, by about 900rpms it's a proportional thing at idle it seems about 100rpms off & at 2500 rpms its actualy only about 1800
I have told MSD countless times that the 8910EIS is the wrong tach adapter, the 8910 is the right one, if you look at the wiring diagram on the 8910 EIS it doesn't use the existing -coil terminal for the trigger of the MSD6AL in it's diagram it uses a magnetic pickup device, which is proprietary to MSD, so when hooking up the 8910 EIS using the regular 8910 wiring diagram the tach will work but it will be off. MSD tells me everytime I call I am full of shit basically. I just walked somebody through the MSD6AL installation on his car yesterday & again MSD told him he needed the 8910 EIS, I told him how to wire the MSD6AL unit & I told him in the meanwhile how to wire the EIS to work until he can get the regular 8910 tach adapter. The EIS is proportionally off. So if your tach says 8grand your really hitting like 7000 cause I had my Apex'i S-AFC & AVC-R hooked up & they both said 7000rpms when my regular tach would say like 8500rpms & I was like WTF, thats when I started calling MSD & going wtf none of this makes sense, & then I borrowed a tach adapter off my budies honda which had the 8910 & it worked, the RPMS matched. That is why you think your revving to 8grand. In fact today I just received another e-mail from somebody who had talked to the guy that i just told how to wire it the other day, & he has the same exact problem. MSD is wrong, the EIS is not for toyotas.
And as far as the speed cut the speed signal comes from the speedometer & goes directly to the ECU there is no magnetic pickup for the speed signal or speed cut. The faster the speedo goes the higher the voltage goes to the ECU until it peaks at 5v I beleive at 112mph therefor the ECU cuts the power to the coil & injectors.
I will also say that it is not impossible to get a 3S-FE to rev to 8k cause I took my 3S-FE & installed it in my buddies 84 Corolla FWD coupe & I actually took the 3S-FE distributor & pulled the little 2 tooth gear off it & welded it to a 4A-GE distributor & installed all the 4A-GE electronics including the ECU, ignitor, coil, dizzy, sensors, injectors, throttlebody, I mean everything from a 4A-GE bluetop onto the 3S-FE & it would hit 8500rpms everyday for him until the rod blew, but that is the stock 4A-GE rev limiter, the actual engine can handle the rpms with a shorter valve clearance or shimless or underbucket shim kit. which is what we did. It won't handle it for long tho, as we found out it lasted about 2 months of dailly driving. The rods are too weak.
I hope you don't think I don't like you or I am hating on you cause I am not. I am using constructive critisism sp?? to open a debate, I am the kind of person that loves debates about cars, ask the GT-FOur V2 yahoo group I am also hoping that I can teach you something & help you to be a very productive member.
Like I said I'd like to take a look at your car & you can see my poor car & my 3S-GTE in a billion peices. All my contact info is in my profile.
