V6 eninge will it fit and is it smart

hi,

i was just wondering if anybody knows if a V6 camary engine will fit into the 4th gen. celicas? i like my car but i want it to be fast. or is there a better way to get the power that i want.

any suggestions would be helpful

I don't know, but most people around here will tell you that is silly. You should put a better celica engine in it. If you think it is slow chances are you have a Celica GT (3S-FE engine).
The GTS engine (3S-GE) will fit in with minor modification and has about 140 horsepower and redlines at 7500 RPM.
The all-trac turbo engine (S3-GTE) has about 180 horsepower and also redlines at 7500 rpm. I am told a simple boost controller can take this engine over 200 horsepower.

Al 4th generation celica engines are 2 litre.

Hey yeah it would probebly be fast, but it would make an already heavy car that much worse, and even more put all that weight on the front end. One example of just such a car is the Hyundia Tiberon, it's got a fairly small V6, but is hampered by it's nose heavy handling. A good turbo, supercharger, or even a racical engine build-up, could make most any Celica a screamer, but mostly the 3SGE cars. An All-Trac with it's 3SGTE is really the way to go, but the non-turbo cars can be made fast too.

Can it be made to fit? Yes. It's been done on a 5th gen GT. Is it easy? No. Most of that car was custom made.

All of what Craig said is true, but those engines redline at 7.3K.

What kind of resources (time and money) are you willing to spend on the car, and what kind of Celica do you drive? We'd be better able to help you if you can tell us that.

Also, I'm going to go ahead and say this, mainly so that no one else will. Your question is very vague, and it really cannot be answered. I've seen these types of questions 1000x before, even asked them a few time's myself. Vague questions are gonna get vague answers, so if you can explain what you want better, the better we'll be able to explain the possibilities to you.

Is the V6 the Twin Cam V6 That came in the camry or is it the regular one? Becuase i know that the twin cam V6 will fit with just a small modification to move it back so the axles wouldnt rub on the frame. But as the other said it would make the car very heavy, we did the mod for a dude about 2 years ago at my shop and it made the car haul ass but we also had to beef up the suspension too. I would go with the 3s-ge or the 3sgte if i were you tho man.

The Camry V6 does what... 160 or 180 HP? It would seem silly to take that engine over the GTE. Even a GE at 135 horsepower would make up ground in less weight and higher redline. Unless of course the V6 is much cheaper.

ok so i am not the greatest speller, but i am new to these forums. i drive a 1988 celica GT, donno about the engine but its a 2.0L 16 valve. is it possible to get around 300hp out of the S3-GTE. i know it will cost alot, but is it possible without blowing it up?

yea, it's possible, actually wouldnt take much depending on the generation of the engine. bigger turbo, front mount intercoller, bore out the engine, turbo timer and boost controler...shit like that. the 3sgte would be your best bet if you want that much more power.

Dan - Overboring an engine is major work. The block has to come out of the car.

However, the GTE can see 300HP, and it has in many different applications.

The question that you need to ask yourself is, 'How much do I want to spend?'

300HP is almost 200% more power than your car has right now. It wasn't designed for it, and you must beef the rest of the car up in order to handle the higher amounts of power. Think along the lines of brakes, suspension, transmission, clutch, tires, etc. It gets to be very expensive in the long run.

Getting high numbers out of any 4th Gen can be easy. It's getting reliable higher numbers that's the challenge.

Yup, but I wouldn't call it an Alltrac engine. 3S-GTE, they came in many different forms.

But, to fully answer the question, if you got an ST165 3S-GTE (88, 89 Celica Alltrac's) all you would need is the engine, enigne harness, and ECU.

Let me step in here

The Camry v6 I am assuming your talking about a 1MZ-FE 3 litre all aluminum engine 92-97. This engine puts out 220hp is about 30% heavier than your 3S-FE, Therfor would be a good upgrade. But the engine mounts are 100% completely different because the camry uses a cradle that the engine bolts to the cradle & the cradle then bolts to the car. so only 2 motormounts actually attach to the frame of the car, and those mounts are completely different from any celicas engine mounts. it uses a dogbone mount on the passenger side instead of a typical celica engine mount. Lots of fabrication will go into just fitting the engine in the engine bay, let alone Exhaust, Custom PS lines, different PS pump, relocating the cooling fan, then the wiring will be a nightmare for someone who is not 100% familiar with wiring toyota engines.

SO overall Theasability of a 1MZ-FE in a 4th gen about 20%


The 3S-GTE which I have swapped countless times into 4th gens are relatively easy because there is no custom fabrication at all required to bolt them in. They literally bolt right in with every mount the same. The powersteering lines & all accessories hook right up with no problems.

I know your looking for power. Well the 3S-GTE has it.
here are the stock HP figures for all 8 versions of the 3S-GTE.

Late 90's European Corolla GT-FOUR 265HP
TRD 503 1992+ 3S-GTE used in competition 490HP For homogolation rules it was limited to 301HP but in full tune was 490HP.

Finding a Grp A, WRC, or 503 engine is pretty hard & they are often at least twice the price of the regular engines.

I own 3 4th gens all swapped with 3S-GTE's & the best bang for the buck is installing a JDM ST185 3S-GTE it has 225hp stock & adding a boost controller, and 0Fuel Cut Defenser can get you into the 260Hp range with no engine mods at all. That is over double the power you currently have.

On my 86 GTS I decided to go with a JDM ST185 Rally Car GRP A engine & with small mods like boost controller set at 12psi, HKS cams, I was hitting 346hp on the dyno to the wheels. To give you an idea this is what it looks like.

Dollar for Dollar a 3S-GTE will own just about any toyota engine except a 2JZ-GTTE.
