Put very, very plainly, this forum software sucks. It sucks from the regular user point of view, it sucks from the moderator point of view, and it really sucks from the admin point of view. When this forum was created, no one ever thought that it would get this big, or be this great. But, it is, and I'm thrilled with this.
The problems that many of the moderators and admins keep encountering is this forum software preventing upgrades that will help to promote 4GC, and allow the site to grow larger. Just look through the 'Website Suggestions' forum and you'll be able to see plenty of evidence pointing to this software sucking a big one. I have talked to many of the moderators at length, and I have talked to some of the members of this site. Many have asked me to emplement changes, or minor 'upgrades' so that their forum experiance would be better. I have not been able to do many of these things, mainly due to limited software capability.
Here are the Pro's/Con's of the upgrade:
Pro's
-More similey's
-More control over user acounts
-MUCH faster
-Better control of forums (sub forums)
-A better PM system
-User's have more control over their acounts.
-Much more, but I can't think of it off of the top of my head.
Con's
-Expensive
That's pretty much it.
Put simply, we need help. New forum software doesn't come cheap, yet we really need it. What we are asking for is a small donation, no more than $5 bucks, from members. We will not make it a requirement to donate, we merely ask for the favor so that we may be better able to serve our member base as a mod/admin team.
We need $160 for the site upgrade. Any revenue from sticker or clothing purchases will also go towards the upgrade, and a complete list of all members who dontate will be kept so that they may recieve special features at no cost with the new software. (No, I dunno what features those will be yet, think avatars)
