I would just like to suggest once more that we go with something like geeklog. It can be hosted wherever we currently host the 4gcelica.net site, and is totally free software. Take a look at www.te37.org/ or www.genecys.org/ Both sites I created with geeklog. Yo ! Can you please contribute.... we only need a few loose pocket change from ya. ****Clears throat, COUGH, TWO EVOs***We are a few shy away for the $160.00 new web software. So what is the price for geeklog? Please, match my contribution ~ help us out man.

He is just recommending some free software so no one has to pay. I really wonder why so far the only *mod/admin* person who has paid any mind to the concept of free is Tom. Free is NOT bad. Ever used or seen a free piece of forum software? Check it out. Look ay garbled's links. Check out www.phpbb.comI will donate; after we have decided that a piece of free software is not acceptable/won't fit our needs. Jeremy: Don't assume that because VBulletin suits our needs that nothing else will. Craig

Garbled - I checked out those links, and while the over-all design of both forums is nice, there is something 'missing' to me about them. I don't know what it is, but, I just don't like the software. Craig - PHPBB is nice, yet VB does offer more features that I would love to use on the site, such as user ratings (think buying and selling), quick reply boxes (I know that they may be offered with the free stuff), different skins, a more updated search, picture uploads/hosting, sub-forums, and the admin control panel is much more updated than what I saw with PHPBB. Overall, my recommendation is to still go with the VB, not only because it fits our needs now, it will allow us to expand to grow larger. For the examples of the sites running VB: www.otug.netwww.celicatech.comWhat I'd really, really like to see is a design similar to CT, with the close runner up being OTUG. As far as the Admin/Mod team looking through the options, Jeremy is seeing most of what I'm seeing, and I have talked with him about other options. It was decided to go with VB after discussing where we would like to take the site. As far as the hosting, we may still switch, but for right now, we have what we need, and it is VERY easy to use. 9600's offer is extremely generous, and we may still take him up on it, but he's in finals week right now, and I'm close to it as well. Limited time has pushed the hosting issue back. The forum issue is what is at the forefront of the upgrades. Having typed that book out, I want to say this. Thank you to all that have donated, and to all that have contributed to this site. I didn't think it would be this large a year ago when it was created. It's great to see it grow. BTW, my donation will be here Friday. I'm waiting to get paid. Just want to put that out there.

Please be aware that on both of my sites, the forums are a secondary concern to me. I set them up to be simple, and hassle free, with none of the fancy stuff turned on or fiddled with. The forums aren't the primary reason for those sites to exist. I just tossed one on the backs of them because it was free and easy to set up.
If you want a better idea of what geeklog can do, check out thier homepage and some of the example sites. There are also other forum systems that integrate with geeklog to form a site, so you might look at those as well. Plus you would get the gallery and all the other neat features it has, like total remote administration of the site, FAQ manager, etc etc. You also don'thave to nest the forums in the site like I have, there are a wide variety of configuration options.

Garbled: I am personally happy with the main 4gcelica.net site and I do not feel it needs to be replaced. I think that forums are our primary concern.
Tom: I appreciate you giving it a thorough looking through.

Yes thank you all for all the donations & yes I have done my research I looked at ultimatebb, phpbb, geeklog, and many others, VBulletin stood out to me as the easiest to use, easiest to setup, easiest to integrate with the existing site designs(switchable skins), tons of features. we have almost 400 members here & about 30-40 daily members so $5 from each dailly member would meet our goal quite easilly. Once we purchase the software, it's ours. no monthly fees or even yearly. One of the reasons why we are looking for another board is because this current board is on a FREE FORUM SERVER. What happens if probards goes down, or they just shutdown, we would be SOL pretty much. I want to get our forums on our own server that way we know we are secure & safe. well I G2G to work now.
