Think this will work?? It's not the 'cleanest' 3sfe out there, but it's pretty damn clean Once i get the car outta the shop, i'll post some new engine pics up. The intake tube will be new, and there won't be any 'extra' wires running around in there, and i'll probally blast the engine w/ degreser.

lol @ the duct tape on everyones air intake tube..hahah
hey schmoot , what problems arose when swapping in the 86 motor...
I have an 86 3sge waiting to go into my 88 so I might as well learn from your experience... ;D

lol @ the duct tape on everyones air intake tube..hahah Actually, I'm pretty sure the "ducttape" on schmooot's is thermal wrap.. not duct tape.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the "ducttape" on schmooot's is thermal wrap.. not duct tape. naw man, its duct tape. I've got electrical tape underneath it just to ensure no air leaks. Oh wait, thats now, in those pics it was this metallic thermal duct tape stuff, it ripped on all the flex joints though so Now I just have good ol duct tape

lol @ the duct tape on everyones air intake tube..hahah hey schmoot , what problems arose when swapping in the 86 motor... I have an 86 3sge waiting to go into my 88 so I might as well learn from your experience... ;D well I used the intake manifold from the 89, cuz it was already in the engine bay and still had everything attached to it, I used the exhaust manifodl off the 89.just cuz it was there. A couple of the connectors are different on the cooling lines coming off the side of the head, just had to swap them over from the other motor. One of the lower bolts on the tranny is a different size, not holding the tranny to the motor but holding that dust shield on there, I just put a smaller one in. Oh and I seem to remember having a connector problem somewhere near the alternator, I can't remember I might have just routed some connector to the wrong spot and lost it, but pay attention when pulling it apart. Also I took pictures of all the spots where a bunch of wires and/or hoses plugged in. It helped a lot later. And I marked all the connectors and vacuum lines with a parts marker pen, one slash two slashes or circles or x's it made the reassembly much much easier The speedo cable and the reverse switch on the tranny had different electrical connectors on them, I just swapped them with the ones from the other tranny. One more thing. I lifted the engine up 6 or 7 inches, then I unbolted the intake manifold from the motor and pulled it up against the firewall, then pulled the motor out the rest of the way. It doesn't get in the way of the pull and this way you can keep the wiring harness attached to save a lot of headache. I had a hoist with a tilt thing, the engine comes out with tranny attached if you tilt it sharply to one side and get one of the motor mounts out of the way, if you don't have a tilter it might be easier to leave the tranny in there, I assume it would be a PITA to line back up though. It seemed the easier way to do it IMO
