So what's your plans for your 3rd gens? Planning on buying one? Thinking of a engine swap? I myself would just like a rust-free '85 GT coupe, in white of course. Turbo 22R or 1G-GTE later on. But for now I'll just keep beating my '84 GT 'till it dies.

 Well.. mine spun a bearing.. so I'll be rebuilding the bottom end sometime this summer. *sigh* Joy.  |

yyyup.
It was burning oil on the highway, I noticed the pressure was low, so I was taking it easy to stop at a gas station.. but I didnt' find one.. then it started knocking. So I pull over and was towed the 91 miles back home.

right now it's sitting in my backyard.....gutted interior and weighs in at 1968lb with a 1/4 tank of gas  but the sad thing is that the EFI is jacked all to hell. the fuel pump stays running and the supra afm is fuxored from coolant in the throttle body coolant lines f'ing up and sending coolant out the throttle body and down the cai into the afm...i only got to try out the 3/4" fuel rail for a month and then everything went to hell.....obviously the 255lph pump went out and needs replaced and the fuel pressure regulator may be bad so heres my list: take the RE back apart and: clean the 4ag injectors megasquirt standalone fuel management 60mm throttle body replace the supra tt fuel pump mainly just get it running and if I cant.....I'm swapping either 3sgte into it with a bellhousing adapter or to 20v blacktop I was hoping to get some drifting in this summer with the rebuilt zenki LSD but it may not happen  |

damn man I'm sorry your not having good luck lately. You're telling me. You think I could bandage it by just replacing the bearing to get my car home? ~350 highway miles to DFW. I'm going to work on rebuilding the bottom end once I get there, but I need a way to get it back. |

i dont like 3rd gens, personally, there my least favorate generation of the celica. personally they are actually one of the best besides the 1st gen....the 2nd gen is hideous and the 6th is gawky..the 4th gen is alright and the 5th gen is kinda girly looking...7th gen is phat tho |

A low mile short block shouldn't be that hard to find. |

A low mile short block shouldn't be that hard to find. by "dress" you mean "prep".. right? I'm going to rebuild this one. I'm not going to just not make use of my forged pistons. I'd rebuild whatever I got... so I figure starting "new" is the best bet. |

Yep, you could say it that way too. You would be trying to get rid of the old bearing material that's stuck to the crank and smooth the surface. I dosn't have to be mirror polished but the closer you could get, the better. |

depends on how hard it was knocking. if it is knocking pretty damn hard then you got a spun bearing which a patch job is not going to work cause the crank needs to be turned. if it's a bearing wear issue you could possibly get away with slapping some new bearings in it & running some SAE 60, you won't know until you pull the pan & check it out.
I had some knock in my 88ST when it was stock I just pulled the engine, pulled the crank had it polished, & installed new bearings, I didn't recon the rods or nothing & it lasted another 45,000 miles & counting in a 84 Corolla so.... Just kinda the luck of the draw whether it will work or not. I wouldn't want to waste $100 in bearings & find out it didn't work.
