Nitrous is considered a Forced induction because it is N20 1 part Nitrogen 2 parts Oxygen
It is made & doesn't appear naturally. It is pressurized in a tank & Released into the intake. (Forced into the intake)
But at any rate this is the all motor forum, if you have nitrous, you don't have a all motor car. you got NOS.

I still beg to differ on Nitrous being forced induction, as it is no more pressurized than a fuel injection system, and in most cases, not as pressurized. You guys can call it what you want, but until I see a Nitrous unit powered by the engines exhaust gases, or a belt and pulley system, then it's still just a fuel enhancer to me. I'll just sign off by saying that in the days before Nitrous, racers/cheaters, used dry ice in their fuel tanks to give the same efect. Oh yeah, by the way gasoline does not come out of the ground as gas, it comes out as crude oil and must be refined into the thousands of state and local goverment required blends, that we consumers are forced to pay outragess prices for. Check it out every state in the union requires different fuel adatives, so we get to pay more, and suffer for what makes our cars run poorly. racerb

Either way, it's forcing more oxygen into the mixture than exists naturally in the air. Therefore, it is FI.. pressure has nothign to do with teh chemical composition of the mixture. the entire concept of forced induction is to get more oxygen into teh burn.. it causes it to burn hotter and more entirely.

Well after all the talk of forced induction, I've decided not to put an onboard fire system on my racecar. Why, because some misguided fool might think it's a nitrous system and protest me, damn and to think all this time I was worried about safety. Thanks guys for straightening me out, how could I have been so blind. Well I could hide the Fire Bottle in my truck, they'd never think to look there. racerb

I believe you're right....It seems as if gasoline has some sort of carbonation to it, does it not? Sometimes I notice that when i put say 10 bucks of gas in my tank and don't fill it up, and I drive semi-vigerously some light goes on in my dash and when I open the fuel tank after i turn the car off there's a lot of pressure release, but never when I fill it(and the light does go back off usually).

That's due to evaporation. there is no carbonation in gasoline.. actually, I'm not even really sure that's chemically possible. The light could be saying your pcv valve needs to be replaced..

The light could be saying your pcv valve needs to be replaced.. this is the light i was talking about...i have no idea what it stands for, that's for sure...and i don't have the manual that came with the vehicle, cause it didn't come with it when i got it. And i can't find the manual online either.
