Hey Jeremy, is the factory windage tray screened or louvered, reason being, a screened tray is not as effective when trying to make HP. The other item I found is a crank scraper, which is popular with dragracers, but is also effective at making power. One key, and it may not work on our higher mileage cars, is just run the lightest possible oil (0W-30) to cut down friction. Synthetics are best for this use. racerb

Hey found the crank scraper I was looking for, but am still looking for a performance windage tray for our cars. The scrapers are availible from crank-scrapers.com, a Florida based company, with prices fairly reasonible for the amount of gain they should deliever. racerb

How much does a crank scraper actually help?

Hey the dragracers and circle track guys swere by them. I have heard they're good for at least a few extra hp, so with our small displacement engines, it would most likely mean a limited difference. But hey any increase in output, is worth what ever it cost. racerb

No not exactly, anytime you can keep oil from making the counterweights on your engines crank, like a boat paddel in the water, your going to naturally make more useable power. If you take the paddel and push it deeper in the water, you create more resistence to motion, causing you to do more work. The same is true for an engine, even though it needs the oil to survive, to much oil can rob power. A good windage tray and possibly the use of a crank-scraper, will do nothing but create more power throughout the engines entire range of RPMs. Remember even at idle, your engine is turning at between 700-800 rpms, that a lot of motion, and it only gets wilder as you run up through the gears. racerb
