Here's a question, I have a 1988 celica gt-s. (front-wheel drive) I love my car with a passion. I have a stock engine, but it does'nt have enough horsepower. Is it possible to install a 3.0 liter twin turbo into my car? I talked to a few people, and rumor has it, it will fit. I need to know for sure before I make this purchase. If anyone has any ideas on increasing the horespower in my car, please let me know. Call me greedy, but I would love to see my car pushing 300+ horsepower, without the use of nitro.

i don't know about weather it'll fit or not...but you've got to be careful putting lots of horsepower on a FWD....It's supposedly really difficult so get a FWD set-up to make use of more than a certain HP I heard it's around the 250'ish range. I may be wrong though.
oh, and i think it may be difficult to set up a v6/v8 on FWD anyway. How many FWD only 6cyl/8cyl cars can you think of? Usually anything beyond 4cyl are RWD or 4WD

You'll have to be more specific about what engine you are talking about. Do you mean an engine like a supra engine?
Having a 3.0L engine in your car is going to cause all kinds of problems. First off, your front end will be much heavier. Also, the stock transmission may not be able to handle that power (though you may get another tranny with the engine). Also is the fuel pump good enough?
There are LOTS of things to consider here. This would be a very big job.
Have you considered a 3s-gte?

only 3L tt motors I can think of would be the 2jzgtte that is made by toyota....other than that there is the 3.0L 7mgte and the 2.5L 1jzgtte and the 2.8L 5mge and the 2.0L 1ggte none of those motors would fit in the 4th gen without tube framing and going RWD

If your talking about the IS-300 still engine, It'll never fit a stock 4th gen, as it's a straight 6, and requires much more room than our 4s. Like buzzbomber said, it could fit with extensive front end reworking, as in tubed front clip, from firewall outward. Try just finding a good 3SGTE, and dropping it in, be much simpler. racerb

isnt the is300 rear wheel drive like the altezza?? some of them even use the 3sgte. if you wanna swap front wheel drive wise then just get a 3sgte or maybe a 2zz

He may be talking about the 3000 GT engine. If I remember right, it is 3.0L with the TT. There's no way in hell it's going to fit properly though.

Thier are ways of getting your swap done, if your not intrested in a 3sgte(would be alot smarter...but) i your really down to put the work in, you could get the 2000 version chevy impala fwd V6,and all the wiring and ecu and you better be handy with a blow torch and know somebody who is a god with measuring!!! you have alot of options, volvo makes a 5cyl. fwd car, IT CAN be done but you you better change all your plans for the next year and a half!!!!!! good luck!!!

whoops, I oughtta correct myself. My dads Tiburon Tuscany V6 has FWD but it only has like 245hp which is < the 250 mark though. If you think about it, a v6 @ 250hp < a 4cyl @ 250hp due to weight(just think about it)...because like I said in my previous post, it's really difficult if not impossible to make use of more than _around_ 250hp on a FWD. IMO a 6cyl is just going to weigh your car down and it won't be worth it, even if you want it just so you can TT it.
If you know someone who can tune the car to take advantage of the HP you're talking about and you can afford it, then by all means, you might be able to try it....but GL trying to find a FWD only transmission for the engine you're looking for.

I am running a 93 JDM 3SGTE (stock for now) in a 88GTS body. I can't keep the thing on the road. Your safest and cheapest way is drop a 3SGTE inside. I have a Gen2 inside. My next project is a Gen3 inside a 88 Alltrac. If you like more info let me know. Use can use the same importer I used. I have a friend that hooks me up.

I used the 2nd gen rally car 3s-gte & I am sitting at 346hp @ the flywheel, 0-60 in the high 3 sec range in a FWD 86 GTS
without a complete tubeframe chassis you will not get any inline 6 engine into a FWD 4th gen safely. 3S-GTE is the best solution!!
