Hey guys just bored here and was thinking if I could drop a 5SFE into my 89 celica which right now has a 3SGE? I might think about doing it come this summer.

You would need the normal engine harness/ECU deal. The question is why? 2.2 liters, so you would have more torque, but you'd be giving up your high reving GE. I'd do it, but only if you boost the 5S-FE.

The only worry that I would have is actually fitting all the extra stuff in the engine bay. The 5S-FE is a bigger engine than the 3S-GE or 3S-FE. It could probably still be done though.

Do you think that if I actually do an engine swap you think I should try to find another 3SGE?

I had a 5S-FE in my car for like 8 months. was actually quite impressive for a NA engine, but I think with some small mods the 3S-GE would be a much better engine, or even the 3S-GE with 5S-FE electronics! Let me see if I still have some pics of the 1999 Celica GT 5S-FE engine in my 87 GT.

www.4gcelica.net/88turbo/engineswappics2.htmthose are the pics of the removal of the 5S-FE it bolts right in just like any 3S-FE or 3S-GE But I would much rather just bolt the 3S-GE head onto the 5S-FE bottom end & use the 5S-FE wiring & sensors, and ECU, that would make for a highrevving high tq high hp NA engine. I would estimate 160-180hp on tap. few mods basic Intake header, exhaust close to 190-200hp

Does it really? The 87-91 camrys shipped with either a V6, or a 3S-FE. Or are you talking about a leter model with the 5S-FE.
I've allways wondered what the body code was on the v6 camry.. Matti's page doesn't have that one listed..
