yeah i was basically driving on the freeway when the rod came apart, i didnt realize i had thrown a rod cause it was dark and the car was just idling funny so i assumed it was the headgasket or something so i just parked it and called home. crazy thing is that i remember hearing shit blow up followed by somehting hitting the chassis and smoke. A big chunk off my radiator got cut off and my hood got dented from the explosion, which i dont think would happened if i had my AC compressor bolted on. About the JE pistons, they are forged and everything which is a plus, but im planning on keeping this engine N/A, so would it be smart to get them?

Hey I've had this happen twice, but always on the racetrack. In most cases it's due to oil not getting to a rod bearing, or just overheating of the rod gernal. It usually happens at the shallow end of the oil pan, right above the exhaust pipe. racerb

Hey you can use your stock rods, but for a high output application, you might want to look into a set of Carrella or Manley rods. Just have to do a little surfing to see who offers the best set up for our engines, remember standard 3SGE, not turbo rods, they'll be different length, and adversly affect compression. Good luck and hope you find what your looking for.

I would run JE pistons instead of running your stock cast pistons, reason being that obviously if your going to rebuild your engine, you may as well add some power, get JE pistons for 3S-GE in a 10.5:1 compression, it will still run on pump gas, and will revive your celica like you won't beleive. The forged rods are not required the standard issue 3S-GE rods are good to about 300hp. on the 3S-GE the 2 things that will open it up the most is compression & cams. do both of those & you should notice some good power gains.

It might be a good idea to have the stock rods shotpeened just for good measure.

Hey man, that is the price for 1 set of pistons (4), however they are for a turbo, and would actually lower you compression. If you could find the JE pistons for the standard 3SGE, most likely they would increase your compression ratio to at least 10 to 1 depending on piston dome hieght.

I need the lower compression for the turbo build up. I am buying a GE engine (I am told by Jeremy it was in running before he pulled out) next week from Jeremy. All I care if the block and Head are in good condition. Plus the GE has more ribs. He said that I will need it because it has a stronger forged crank. So instead of me swapping in a 3SGTE. We are building the GE to be a 3SGTE. Btw,another subject. Since youre a selling the MAF brackets as RacerB Inc. lol Think you can design a low profile aluminum strut bar. I dont like the V shape mount to my engine firewall or better yet, improve on it. Custco makes them but the name is to pricey. Neuspeeds makes them for VWs front and rear.... I wish I could weld. ;D
