Ok guys so what I see here is that a JDM ECU has a better program in it then the USDM. If this is right then I need a JDM ECU. Im guessing that the fule mapping is a little differnt because we have harsh smog laws and they dont.

Yeah the JDM ECU is the way to go, and is my next purchase for the IT project. I just bought a GTS with the JDM engine, so the combination will make a killer ITA machine. Oh yeah and the car actually came with KONI adjustibles at all four corners. racerb

Hey check with Meiko Japaness Engines at 1-888-515-7794, or Nippon Motors at 1-800-416-3626, and if all else fails contact Toysport, just can't seem to find their number right now, and their site want come up either. All of them import JDM engines, so they should be able to soarce the ECUs also. Let me know what they say, I've not contacted anyone yet myself, cause I'm not quite that far along in the build process. racerb

Just thought il add my bit. I live inNewzealand like the the other person on this form who posted a pic of his JDM 3sge gen 1.
Lets clear things up first off the other picture on page 1 is a secound genaration 3sge usa/jdm unknown ?
The JDM 3sge shown is a gen 1 3sge with 160 hp stock the usa gen 1 3sge looks pritty identical to this but has less power im unsure if the rocker covers are gold on gen 1 usa motors but jdm motors 3sge gen 1 have gold covers
i will post pic of my gen 1 JDM 3sge if anybody wants

So the JDM motor has 160 HP. I know the USDM has about 140 HP. I have a JDM motor in my race car right now with some minure head work, I need to dyno my car to see what HP am I standing on.

Do you have the JDM ECU, if not your not going to get the 160 hp from that engine. I've got a JDM to go in my IT car, just got to get the ECU. racerb

No I'm using the my old ECU. I dont think that it will make over 20HP just from the ECU. maybe somthing in the head also. I been running around for some rims and trying to get the studs going, I have not got any time off so I can look for a JDM ECU. That will be next on my to do list.

Hey as soon as I locate the JDM ECU I'll let you know where I found it. Maybe we can get a better deal for buying more than one. racerb ;D

The JDM ECU has more aggressive fuel maps and some slightly different tuning, allowing it to make more power. Then again, in Japan the minimum octane rating for fuel is like 98, and the ECU is tuned around that.

if i used a US ECU will i be able to pass smog in california?? The JDM engine does not come with an EGR setup, and from what I've heard, you will fail visual inspection without one.
