Okay, so my wife complains that my 88 GT-S is not comfortable enough to ride in, so I decide I want to silence the critic.
I go to the wrecker, and find a decent condition drivers seat of the same colour, and just take off the seat back... if you pull off the four 10mm screws on the seat back, it comes apart easily and then you have access to the whole thing.
Then pull apart the four twist ties at the bottom and the two on the sides until the fabric comes free, so that you can access the bolts.
There are four 12mm bolts on the sides that need to come out, then the seat back just lifts off.
Get under the seat (removing it is easiest) and retrieve the wiring harness. You will need to remove the centre console, and there is some hidden screws in the compartment/armrest.
Pull out the adjustment switch for the seat, it slides out easily, and the rest of the wiring harness. There should be a lead to the seat, to the switch, and to under the seat. The one that goes under the seat should only be two wires, both white, one with a blue stripe and one with a black stripe.
Take it home, remove your NON-power, NON-adjustable passenger seatback, and install the new and improved seatback.
To install the wiring, cut a hole in your centre console where that stupid coin slot / pop and chip collector that gets all sticky, the length is perfect, and you will have just enough room if you leave a thin bar of plastic between the two where the original one was.
Wire the new switch to where the old one was, so the new one is beside the passenger and the old one is moved closer to the driver. Then the only other thing is to wire the POWER, which you can just splice the same coloured wires to the old service.
The wires are kinda bulky and don't like to fit under the console, so you have to cram em in a bit, especially if you have lots of stereo wiring already running under there...
And enjoy!!!
