Is there any difficulty difference swapping either in place of a 3sfe? I know the 3sgte is pretty much a 3sge that's turboed. Is it easier to swap in a 3sge by any means or what? Like do I still have to worry about all the wiring harness cutting and matching with a 3sge over a 3sgte?

I'm not so sure this belongs here but...
Either swap would be just as challenging. If you get JDM motors, you would have to modify the wiring. Also, it's known that 3rd gen GTE's are a PITA. There's many bugs. If you go turbo, go with the 2nd gen(90-93 alltrac/gt4) engine. It's easier and it has the twin entry turbo, that will reduce crackin of the mainfold. 1st gen is know to crack due to having single entry turbo, and it is more prone to cracking.
Overall, the GTE swap would be more dificult IMO becuase of the turbo system, and makin sure everything is workin, not blowin up or anything.

I'm sure the turbo and intercooler create a little less space when installing and everything so that may be a factor when going into this. you could always swap to the 3sge and turbo it down the road or something, but like 4thgenceli said....2nd gen 3sgte is the way to go

So I guess more $ and more work = more HP for the 3rd gen...it's something I may have to consider.

you could just get a 2nd gen and push more boost out of it for less $$ than you would spend on the 3rd gen stock

Ya.. 2nd gen and boost the shit outta it. There's not a lotta parts avail for the 3rd gen really, and wiring is a MPITA.(mega pain in the ass) I think Jeremy tried a 205swap in his celi, but had major traction problems...

I'm just sayin...
He did the st205 swap into I think his 87 coupe and had massive probs with keepin it on the road. If you wanna 3rd gen, I'd honestly source out a 6th gen altrac.

na.....i'd rather keep it simple and get a 2ng gen 3sgte because the price seems a little more in my range. I dont get what is so much better about the 3rd gen motor than the 2nd gen

AFAIK, about 50 horses..
2nd gen is 200hp stock...3rd i belive is like ~246hp stock.
Not much difference, shit Jeremy is pushin WAY more than that in his.. I'm fairly sure he has 2nd gen.

what do each of them push for lb of boost? I would think that lowering the compression on the 2nd gen and using a different wastegate, etc. with a boost controller other than stock would get it to make more power for less money than the 3rd gen...or you could just use 3rd gen parts on the 2nd gen

The 3rd gen is almost a total different beast from a 2nd gen. There is more potential in a 3rd gen engine but parts are scarse wiring is alot different.
I am running a 2nd gen 1992 Celica GT-FOUR Rally Car GRP A 3S-GTE. JE pistons, Eagle rods, Total Seal partial gapless rings, HKS cams, Ferrea S/S 1mm oversize valves, and ported & polished, gasket matched cylinder head, ARP headstuds, HKS MLS headgasket. Blitz CT26 BAG turbo at 47mm trim at 17psi I am making 346hp

I would imagine probably if there are parts i could probably find them as elise parts if i got a 3rd gen.
