Gutting your cat is basically worthless unless you have an exhaust. If you have a cat back exhaust, then gutting your cat will help. I'd just recommend you go with a high-flow cat.

I've read and seen many instances where gutting the cat only hurt performance, as well as emissions(though I'm guessing emissions isn't a concern.)
You'd probably be better off getting a high-flow cat as White87GT said, replacing it with a resonator, or replacing it with a straight pipe(if you want your car to be obnoxiously loud.)

I gutted my stock primary cat, and put a high flow cat in place of my stock secondary cat.. much better, and it passes emissions now. -Jason

IT all depends.
When i had my 2se motor, with the gutted car, i lost alot of torque down low, but i gained it up high. I could take the engine higher in the revs.
With the 3sge motor, i cant really tell because i havn't put the other cat back on.
What motor do you have?
If you want to gutt it, take the cat off, and put it in brake fluid. Leave it over night and when you come back the next day, it will be gutted. All you do is pull the cat up, and stand it on its edge and the shit inside will come using out.
Be carefull how you despose of it though.
I wish i'd found out this befor i did myn. I took a hammer and a chisle and banged it out that way. took forever.
Some people say its loud after you do this, honestly, i didn't even hear a difference in the sound.

At your local shop, if you want them to weld it in. But if you want it to remove it now and then, goto a performance shop in your town and give them the dimentions of the cat, and the size of the flanges.

Dude.. screw performance shops.. I got mine welded in at an ordinary muffler shop.. if you want flanges instead.. just tell them. They can do that as well. -Jason

I never thought about that, do most mufflershops carry high flows? They should. If they dont, just bring your own, they'll still install it. They want the money from you.
