I need to know the difference between a MAF and a MAP conversion, and what are the pros and cons to this modification??

$$$$$$ there are better things to do than swapping your fuel management. but if you are really wanting to swap your fuel management with something different than go with stand alone. easily completely adjustable.

You see that gigantic chunk of metal in your intake tube? Notice how it measures airflow by the air moving a metal flap?. That's an AFM (often confused with MAF.. which is incorrect).
The MAP sensor conversion will do away with the necessity of that thing. It means less resistance, and more accurate readings.

I dunno if our intake plenum has an egr casting in it, but the small resriction of the afm is less than the restriction of the egr casting that can be easily ported away.

a AFM & MAF do the same thing they just measure the same things differently. Many ppl see a AFM as a flap design while ppl see a MAF as a pressure vein convertor, or a hot wire, or karman style. MAF OR AFM same basic thing.
I don't think a MAP System is as accurate as a AFM. it's just not feasible that it would be. measuring vacuum to figure out air flow is inaccurate. measure airflow to find airflow is accurate. if it was more accurate everyone would switch to using a MAP sensor, FORD,GM,TOYOTA, CHRYSLER all still use some form of a AFM for their fuel & ignition control. Using a AFM you can measure airflow, airspeed, air density, air temperature, humidity.
The only pro to a MAP conversion is that you don't have the restriction of the AFM in your intake stream.
when you talk about pros to a AFM/MAF system you are very vague because they are many different style AFM/MAF systems & each have the advantages & disadvantages. But I think the hotwire system is the best other than you have to clean them all the time or they will not read correctly, but they pose the least resistance & most versatility.

Great info, i am going to use it, so is it possible to use the intake setup for lets say a 2000 celica, would our cars support the wiring configurations and all the other items related in an AFM/MAF conversion??

See i was looking at one thats at our shop, thiers 6 wires on ours but thiers 5 on the 2000s, im wondering if they will read correctly for smog reasons ,i now we all would enjoy the better air flow that would come with this conversion.

There is a website that sells a MAP conversion kit. It is strictly a fuel controller and it is too expensive. Its selling for $650 during the Spring sale, normally $895. It would be a cool device to have it is completely programmable. The site is www.mapecu.com
