the t-stat depends on where you live. if you live in AZ or in a hot climate removing the t-stat is a terrible idea. most ppl would think it was good because it will keep the coolant cooler- NOT TRUE there are 2 purposes of a t-stat 1 is to let the engine warm up in the winter & stay in a temp range 2 is to let the water sit in the radiator long enough to cool before recirculating.
With no t-stat in AZ the water just circulates & never sits in the rad long enough to cool

Speaking to that. . .what should I prepare for heat wise for my 87 GT. I will be moving to PHX on the 21st. I have done a hood vent and external rad. for tranny, plus have added a couple MR2 intake fans under the hood switched in the dash, heat shield, a crappy oil cooler a gut/cat. And before you say it. . .it will pass emm.

Simmer this.. it averages about 110-115 in the summer here....
and it will stay around 90 until it gets about 8 at night.. It's HOT! here. Dunno if there's any underhood stuff(on the hood bottom to prevent engine noise) but I would remove that.
