First off -> Welcome to the 4gc community. Second -> A 1st/2nd(3rd also i belive) gen GTE will bolt right up the the mounts in your 89GT. The 3S-FE,-GE,-GTE all have the same mounts.. no worries about that. You may have to relocate the starter I belive, but I forget as too which engine, GE or GTE, that needs the relocation. The S53 tranny(comes stock in the GT) will bolt right up to the GTE engine no problem. Your best bet would be to obtain a front clip for this swap. It's basiclly a car chopped in half, and the whole front is shipped out.. engine, ECU, wire harness, dash, engine bay, all the gizmos incl. These run about 1200 shipped (for the 2nd gen). I would also reccomend to NOT get a 1st gen GTE, but a 2nd gen GTE(from the 90-93 celica alltracs). Reason for this.. More power, wider avail. of parts for these engines, TWIN ENTRY TURBO!. 1st gen came w/ a single entry(only 1 entry hole for air) and the exhaust manifold was more prone to heat cracking. 2nd gen had 2 entry holes, and is less likely to head crackin in the exhaust manifold. If you still go w/ a 1st gen GTE engine, you can still get the 2nd gen exhaust manifold and turbo to bolt up to it. I think that should answere all the questions that you need... and also I am hoping that I got all this straight... hehe.. Welcome to 4gc sir

If you want a more straight forward swap IE: No messy and intensive wiring and you dont have the skill or time for the car to be down while you are doing the swap a 1st gen would be the best bet. Just recommend the 2nd or 3rd gen where as more parts are still avail. such as HKS still has the cams for the 90+ 2nd and 3rd gen heads.
