Putting new meaning to "High flow muffler"

Where to start...
So i was looking at my muffler (I plan to replace it because the cat. is shot I think and i figured i would replace the muffler while i was at it.) And i noticed th mufller moved alot more thn the pipes. it turned out the weld around the inlet had burned out (i removed the muffler and looked inside... the whole thing is burned out. wooo! i just need to get around to getting it in to a shop. how much should it cost to replace it from the header down? (My 86 GT rocks the awsome 2SE) and would it be cheaper to buy like a pacesetter or HKS system and do it my self.

I bought 2 6' sticks of 2.5" exhaust pipe and bent them myself because there were only 2 90* bends and then the small bend that goes over the axle and then you can go straight out. I took my cat off and cut the flange off that bolts to the flex pipe and welded the flange to my custom exhaust...cheapo 2.5" inlet/ 4" outlet fart can.....costed me less than $75, but I did it myself in the shop. not sure if the exhaust on yours is different than my gt-s

hmm, Thanks for your help but I don't have access to a shop or the knowledge to do the pipe bending or welding.

If you want to go cheap and decent, just take it to a any decent muffler shop and tell them you want to go 2.5" manifold back. You should be able to get a cheap high flow cat and something like a flowmaster turbo for around $200 together...and you can count on another $150 for the pipe.

There's a shop out here in AZ that is doing a full exhaust 2.5" from the mainfold exit all the way, catless w/ a performance muffler for $180.

200 is about right, but don't go over 2.5 though...

I'm going into Midas to get it checked out and discuss my options in about an hour. Since i have the awsome 2se package I dont really need any thing high performance, although I am leaning towards 9600's idea. Im also not a big fan of fart can mufflers lol. thank you guys for your help.
