Hi guys! I am acquiring my first ever Celica today and it's an 88 GTS. I'm no stranger to Toyotas though, having owned and worked extensively on Mk1 MR2's and my current ride, a 1986 Corolla GTS, which I just sold to make room for the Celica. I live on Vancouver Island, BC Canada. I am involved in rally - I compete in TSD rallies and am a volunteer worker on stage rallies. Here is a picture of my Rolla in action.

It is actually an '86. When the seller first told me about the car, he thought it was an '88. Anyway, I'm delighted with it, although I am discovering that driving FWD is quite different from RWD and AWD (my other cars). Click for pictures I picked it up for C$500. The most attractive thing about it is "NO RUST", although it was hit on the passenger side. So, after spending C$140 on a used door, corner light and trim, C$118 on a new fender plus C$300 for paint, I'll be out just over a grand for a rather nice Celica. It also has a bum wheel bearing, leaking valve cover gasket and could use new struts but all that's minor. Parts are cheap and I can do all the work myself.

Let me get this straight, you sold a AE86 to get a '86 GTS?? Hrmmm. Oh, before you paint that fender, check the fit of the corner light. I bought that exact same brand a few years ago, and the opening for the for the light was about a 1/4inch too big.

While the AE86 undoubtably had more 'classic' appeal, its body was quite tired. As for me, I was tired of constant rust repairs - fibreglass, welding new metal and so on. Now, if only I could defeat that torque steer....
BTW Bryan, thanks for the heads-up on the light opening. I will definitely check that before taking the fender to the paint shop.

Yeah, I know what you mean about rust repair. But teh 'rolla didn't look that bad in your pics. Maybe it was the red paint . There's two fixes that I know of for torque steer, Limited slip differential or buy an All-Trac, hehehe.
