Hey guys, just got home from a day of auto-xing the GTS. It was a pretty good day, with only alittle trouble with the car. I drove part of the runs, and the previous owner drove the other part. After about 8 timed runs each, I had a third place trophy for my efforts, and my buddy finished 6th. As soon as we down-load the pictures, I'll post them for you all to see. As I said before, we did have alittle trouble with the car, as my hasty repairs to the powersteering proved insufficiate. As we were completing our last few runs, the powersteering system took a dump and soaked the back of the engine and fire wall. The smoke from the fluid spill was making us look like a bug spayer, so we packed up our gear and loaded the car on the trailer. I will make repairs and be back on track as soon as I can, baring any further problems. racerb

Hey Guys!!! I'm working on a new computer and can't seem to get the pictures to work right. The digital camera I have was given to me. I can get the pictures in the computer, but I can't get them into the email/website. Can anyone give me some pointers, shortcuts, ideas, etc... to get this damn thing to work. racerb

Hey don't quote me on these times, as the official times have not been posted on the NASA-X web-site. The winning car in my class was a '03 Mini Cooper with I beleive a '97 Subaru Impreza in second. If I remember correctly, the Mini had a best run of 43.9 and change and the Subaru had like a 44.5 and a little. My best clean run was a 45.09, with a 44.99 plus a cone as my best raw time, this was a very tight course and the GTS still needs some tweeking. When the official result are posted, I'll post them here for all to see. All in all, I'm very happy with the performance of the car, and beleive it can only get better. Also thanks for the info, I'll try again to down-load the pictures. racerb

Cool, cool. The GT-S is surprisingly good for the "X". I love it, if you get it stiff enough you will move pretty fast around those corners. Was this your first time doing auto-x? My first time was crazy!!! I had a DNF and probably 4 cones all in 8 runs. But over time it gets better.

No this wasn't my fist time, as I began auto-xing back in 1981 in a '80 model Civic. I auto-xed for many years on the local level, then on to SCCA divisional, then national Solo II. In fact in '85, I went to Salina Kansas for the Solo II nationals, driving an '84 CRX. That was a real eye opener, as I was competing against the best in the US and Canada, in fact I was 19th after day 1 and 23rd after day 2, besting only one other driver. I have continued to compete over the years in various cars, the latest being my ITC Nissan Pulsar, which was set up for road racing, making it very hard to be competetive. This however, was my first time back on an auto-x coarse in nearly 6 years, and with a totaly new to me car. As I said the Celica has a lot going for it, so it should be quite competetive when completed. racerb

I am jealous of your section, we dont get the white lines on the ground only the cones!!!! Werd.. but I am inclined to think that those lines would be somewhat distracting.. that is to say, I woudln't count on those lines as a reference to the lateral limits of the course... If they were drawn out wrong, it could, in fact, negatively affect your time.

Hey guys, the lines are just a reference point, they are not intended to show the true line. As long as I can remember, the local auto-x clubs and SCCA regions have used them to mark the imaginary lines between corners. As a matter of fact, they were used way back in '85 at the Solo II nationals in Kansas, when I competed there. When our local club, the Triad Sportscar Club began using them, was when our coarses became more and more complex. racerb

I would love to have them around the corners because sometimes, where I race at they are kinda small tracks with lots of corners, and sometimes you can lose track and get messed up.

Hey guys just moved into my new shop, will begin dismantleing the GT in preparation for it's rollcage and body work. As I told you all earlier on, there will be lots of interior peices availlible from this car, I'll post them as I remove them. The GTS is also going to receive some attention, as it will get a new powersteering pump, high pressure hose and just a general check of all it's parts, before another auto-x season begins in the spring. After the results from the last event, I do see a few areas for improvement, namely in the suspension, where a new set of lowering spings will be installed. If time allows, I might even go ahead with the bushing install, as I can use peices off the GT to build this up, before taking anything off the GTS. racerb
