i Have 2.5 all the way back into a 4 inch tip, but its not a rice tip its a 400 dollar scorpion exhaust tip for the turbo MR2. Nice and deep sounding, sound awesome with an intake

Great job on the write-up. This is my first experience working with 4 cylinders. Most of my life I have built and drag raced Pontiacs were header pipe and collector pipe size is very important to getting the full HP from the motor. We obviously don't use full exhaust on the cars. I'll give the 2.25" size and the domestic muffler a try. Thanks, Jim if we had a header worth a crap, I would try to work the system around the header's performance as well.. but since there's not one, I just assume there won't be one used on the system.

Jim is a very cool name.
I'm not planning on a header, just trying to find out what the best size pipe is. I figured enough people have changed their exhaust that there should be some good info out there. You provided the good info. I was looking for. Performance is all I care about anyway, within a decent budget.
Thanks again, Jim

Well that's great.. but my write-up was for performance. I honestly don't care much about what it sounds like. Yes my performance did go up slightly, my car seems to have alot more torque than it did before.

I redid my exhaust this year since I broke my down pipe / crack. My local muffler shop set me up for a FLOWMASTER HI CAT and FLOWMASTER muffler.
Downpipe collector - 89 dollars. Flexpipe - 56 dollars. Hi Cat Flowmaster - 136 dollars. Flow Master Muffler + tip - 186 dollars.
Piping is 2.5"for my fe and well enough. I just cant image a 3.5" piping..... and I got pacesetters. With the new flowmaster setup - its a deep throat sound and not loud. It sounds stocky exhaust and makes a cracking noise when I rev 4000 rpm. Yeah I got a split tip. It sounds like a fly shocker at work in your back yard.
