Hey, i'm new to the celica world, just wrecked my 240 and bought an old celica st. First thing that needs to be done is [glow=red,2,300]new rear brake shoes[/glow] Drum brakes, in my opinion...[glow=red,2,300]SUCK[/glow]...anybody know if the rear discs on a gt or gt-s will work?, and if so...what i need to pull when i go to the junkyard? Much thanks, _dat Riceboi Mikol

Yes, but you'd have to replace the entire brake setup, wheel hubs, and anything else that isn't exactly the same.
GT had drums as well, btw.
The GT-S parts will fit, but the bolt pattern is not the same, hence the need to switch ALL of it over.

Is it possible at all to swap everything except the hub bit withthe bolts? IE, I'd like to retain the 4x100 bolt setup, but would prefer rear discs.

Heh.. good luck with that... since the rear discs mount to the 5x100 bolts It's the entire brake setup you have to worry about, not jus the hub. The brakes don't mount to 4x100 bolts.. the holes in the rotor just won't mate with it.
Or, you can find an FX16, we've all been told, and just pull the rear brakes off of it.. same bolt pattern.

Would it be possible to convert the front brake assembly from a GT to be installed on the rear of a GT?

Would it be possible to convert the front brake assembly from a GT to be installed on the rear of a GT? From what I remember, it would be next to impossible due to the way that the axel meets the hub and the set up of the drums in the rear.

*sigh* i guess i'll just have to live with my drum brakes. Ahh well, one more thing, this is just an opinionated question, you know how ppl paint their calipers?? Some are good some are not so good? What do you guys think about painted drum brakes?? haha, iono, i can't really picture it, but was thinking of painting the front calipers, but then thought the drums in the rear would look kinda wierd....

I'm personally thinking about painting them flat black. That will look MUCH better than rust.

I'm personally thinking about painting them flat black. That will look MUCH better than rust. That's the best color on a car anywhere.. including calipers and drums... not to mention wheels, fenders, doors, trunk lids, hoods, quarterpanels, and roofs.

I painted my rear drums on my CELICA ST, they looked fine. as far as the swap to rear discs you can get the Corolla FX16 rear discs. or you can get the full rear GTS brakes, take the rear rotors & try to match them up at a parts store to something in a 4 lug. I beleive some older nissan had the exact same rotor in a 4 lug.

I think your biased. Yeah, but not because my car is black.. my car isn't flat black, it's actually gloss black. I'd spray it flat black, but I don't think Aline would be too fond of riding in it anymore.
