hey.... found a few tips and tricks for removing and reinstalling a 3s-ge, most will probably apply to other motors as well
main one is get the whole loom well out of the way so plugs wont get damaged, we hung the loom over the guard...
its easy as to pull motor and trans out together, just remove the left hand side mount completely off the gearbox and the whole thing lifts out and goes back in quite easily
when doing this, try and get a slight front tilt on the motor, makes it just that little bit easier to get out, plus have a few people around to help wiggle it as it comes out and goes in
now heres a few intersting bits we found converting mine from auto to manual...
the auto and manual rear mounts are different size, beware of this if u try this conversion.
we also found that the brake pedal assembly for the auto is seriously stronger and bigger than the manual one, the clutch pedal can be fitted in with the auto one there, just change the pedal itself, no need to change the pedal box itself on the brake.
my firewall never had the hole for the clutch master cyl, but if u look at an auto, they have a slight indentation in the firewall that shows where the master cyl goes, perfect oval shape of the master cyl where it mounts...
only thing we never figured was the inhibitor, we just got lazy and bypassed it with a push button start lol
the manual shifter is a direct bolt in from the auto shifter
i also suggest if ur smart and have the knowledge, move the loom that goes through the inlet manifold, saves the hassles of trying to get that bugger back through again, plus lessens possibility of damaging those fragile injector plugs
one last little thing, be extremely careful of ur TPS when doing this job, they are very easy to damage and if ur not careful, there is a high risk of damaging them against the top of the firewall when putting the motor in, this also applies to doing head jobs on the 3s as well
