Does anyone know if a stock 5th gen shifter will fit? My friend got a new shifter and is pretty much throwing away his stock one. So I'm going to take it. I was wondering if doing what you guys said would work for this shifter.

i'm sure the shaft will fit, most toyota shifter shaft can interchange, but throw length is about the same. what year is that taken off from? if i remember correct, early 5th gen model has stright shaft. late model has bent shaft in s shape, and has slightly shorter throw.
get a shaft from 7th gen celica and put it in, both throw length and height is shorter, you just need to bent it for proper position.

I believe the shifter is from a 91 GT. So I should hunt for a 7th gen shifter? I was wondering about the 91 GT shifter just because I could probably mess around with it with what you guys said would work.

ok so i tried to follow the instructions on making your own ss thats in the DIY section but it just says move the ball up and im not really sure how im supposed to do that. i beat the crap out of it and theres no way its gunna move. And then if i was to try and do jason's method of cutting out a part of the top and welding it below im not sure how well it will work cuz the shaft below the ball is not the same shape as above the ball. Any suggestions? PS ill try and take pics tomorrow and post them to show what im talking about

here it is. sorry for the crappy quality, i just used my phone. I ended up taking 2 1/2 in out of the top and putting 3/4in under the ball The bottom welds had to be done twice because the first ones weren't deep enough and then i sprayed it flat black

did you grind it out and make it nice and smooth by the welds before you painted it? looks nice though, nice work

didn't completely grind the bottom welds down becuz i got impatient and i kept on accidentally grinding on things that i didn't want to grind. but anyways here it is all black the only thing is is that it didn't work with paint on the ball so i had to sand blast the paint off the ball. once again sorry for the crappy pic

autobody class... basically do anything to your car class. I was waiting for the paint booth to open up and got bored so i did that since i had time and a welder. thanks for the compliments i still haven't driven with it yet so im not sure how it feels but the throw is shorter.
